The Kokkalis Foundation supports the 1st Greek Islands Electric Boat Competition “Let’s Go Port”, themed around Electrical Vessels and Ships, and co-organized by the Electric Boat Association of Greece (E.B.A. Greece) and the Chambers Group for the Development of Greek Isles (C.G.D.G.I.)
The competing phases will take place in ports all around Greece, during the school year 2019-2020 and is addressed to Secondary Education students (of high schools, lyceums, vocational lyceums and nautical lyceums), studying in Regions of Insular Greece and prefectures of the mainland. The concept of the contest endorses the development of electrical vessel technology, with 3 winning teams. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place in the islands' capitals.
The aim of the competition is to instill in children a love for the environment in general and for the seas of the country, the way these can be protected, as well as to spread of the idea of electrical vessels and ships, the development of technology in schools, to stimulate young children towards new professions, but to also enable local island economies to create a different production profile, in addition to that of traditional products, services and tourism, such as manufacturing and technology and know-how production for electric boats.
The competition was successfully launched in Corfu on September 23rd, at the Corfu Chamber of Commerce, with the competition being under the auspices of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine & Island Policy, the Ministry of Energy & Environment and the Ministry of Tourism.
Festivities and activities continued for the next two days at the port of Corfu, where visitors had the opportunity to: taste local products, learn about cutting-edge technologies related to electrical vessels and ships, participate in interactive audiovisual games, watch audiovisual projections about the environment and get informed about recycling.
